You can request data if you are:

• staff of government departments, universities, agencies or statutory boards

• healthcare professionals including medical practitioners and researchers

• if you are none of the above, please contact us

We do not release data to: 

• commercial businesses that market services or products to patients

• insurance companies 

• other similar entities

We also publish key disease trends on our publication page for use by the general public.

The Data Request Process involves five key steps:

1. Submit a data enquiry form

2. Complete a data request form

3. Finalisation of requirements

4. Evaluation of request

Aggregate data is statistics that have been processed in a summary or table form, for example, incidence numbers and rates. 

Key-coded data is individual, record-level data with no personal identifiers. However, key-coded data does contain surrogate identifiers, which are used to determine if there are multiple episodes for the same records.

Non-identifiable data is individual, record-level data with no personal identifiers, or surrogate identifiers.

The turnaround time will vary depending on the data request. In general, we aim to process simply aggregate data requests within 3 weeks. More complex requests may take up to 8 weeks.

Yes. Certain specific data elements that are potentially identifiable cannot be released, such as date of birth, diagnosis date, and admission date.
